Osun lecturer may strike due to 16 month unpaid salary

Lecturers at the four tertiary institutions owned by the Osun State Government have given managements of their various institutions strike notice over unpaid salaries and other issues with the College of Education, Ilesa. They said that the industrial action would commence on Friday. The chairman of College of Education Academic Staff Union in Ilesa, Mr. Olusegun Lana, who led other lecturers in a protest march at the college on Thursday, said the state government had refused to fulfill their part of the agreement reached with the lecturers. Lana, who is also the chairman of the Council of Academic Staff Unions of Osun State Owned Tertiary Institutions, said the strike would be total because lecturers could no longer afford transportation to their various schools, while members of their families were finding it difficult to feed due to the issue of modulated salaries which has lasted for 34 months.

Tragedy struck in Asaba, the Delta State capital, on Thursday when a water tank fell inside the newly renovated stadium collapsed and fell on some vehicles Eyewitnesses told Channels Television that the iron frame supporting the tank which supplies water to the swimming pool in the stadium gave way, causing the tank to fall and destroy properties. Apple  on Thursday become the first US company worth more than $1 trillion on a public stock market. The company on Tuesday reported  second-quarter earnings that topped Wall Street's expectations, sending shares surging by more than 5% into Wednesday. The rally continued on Thursday, propelling shares to the magic number of $207.05. That price translates to a $1 trillion market cap, based on the current estimated number of outstanding shares. In the more than four decades since Steve Jobs founded the company in a California garage, Apple has become nearly synonymous with personal computing and mobile devices. After launching the iPhone — arguably its most famous product — in 2007, Apple  now churns out over 40 million of the devices every quarter,  helping it rake in $254.63 billion in revenue last year. Three INEC Officials Remanded In Prison For 'Receiving Illegal N22m Cash In 2015'

Abiodun, Oladapo and others at large were said to have received N22million in April 2015 which they allegedly obtained through forgery thereby violating Section 15 (2) (d) of the Money Laundering Act. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned three Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials at the Federal High Court in Lagos for alleged money laundering and bribery. Gbadegun Abiodun, Oladipo Oladapo and Afolabi Albert were arraigned before Justice Chuka Obiozor on five counts of conspiracy to receive millions of naira in cash without going through a financial institution. EFCC said the three, on March 30, 2015, conspired to accept cash payment of N177.3million without going through a financial institution. The commission said the offence of accepting cash payment exceeding N5million violates Section 18 and is punishable under Section 16 (2) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act 2011 as amended by the Act No 2, 2012. WhatsApp starts charging business users

The move will allow its owner, Facebook, to  make money from WhatsApp , which has lacked a revenue stream since dropping subscription fees. Companies will be able to provide information and services, such as delivery dates or boarding passes, to customers  via the platform . In return, the businesses will pay a fee for a confirmed delivery. The messages are set to cost between 0.5 cents to 9 cents (0.3p to 7p) a message depending on the country the user is based in. They can be automated or provided by human customer assistants. The price means they will often be more expensive to use than more basic SMS-based texts. All four members of the police department in Blandford, Mass., resigned suddenly and without notice, saying they could no longer work for a “town that seemingly cares so little about us,” ABC affiliate WGGB reported. The four officers, including interim police chief Roberta Sarnacki notified the community’s select-board by email Monday night. They cited safety issues and insufficient remuneration — cruisers with shoddy brakes, ill-fitting ballistic vests, faulty radios, understaffing and low pay — WGGB reported. “We refuse to put our lives on the line anymore for a town that seemingly cares so little about us,” the officers said in a media statement.
